Chronic absenteeism—defined as missing 10% or more of instructional days in a school year—continues to be a critical issue affecting student achievement and well-being, both academically and socially. Research consistently shows that students with developmental disabilities are particularly vulnerable. For instance, an analysis of the National Survey of Children's Health (2016–2017) revealed that children with developmental disabilities were significantly more likely to be chronically absent than their peers without disabilities. The study also noted that absenteeism rates varied depending on the child’s age and the severity of the disability (Murthy et al.).
Rewarding Students for building the habit or extra motivation for attendance. As many students attend classes earlier in the semester and once they achieve a good score it is seen to effect attendance, which then in turn effected scores and later on in the semester the prominence of cramming and attending class again in a scramble is the new normal.
Already in the market there are applications that track student attendance and it is seen to be proven useful in engineering classes such as iclicker and other applications like Vevox and Google Forms. These are very good alternatives that have been considered but due to their smaller amounts of reward the balance scale of effort and gain for a student is not tipped enough. With also a rising trend of self improvement in younger generations such as Gen Z’s growing gym culture it shows that good habits are achievable through more incentive from influencers or applications to track progress. Making our solution the best to achieve the answer to this problem.
